New Models for the Aves ex Machina Series

A little glimpse into my process – the video below documents the making of one of the tiny canary respirator helmets that feature in my Aves ex Machina series of paintings.  I almost consider my self a maker who paints, rather than the other way around. Yet it’s the paintings that end up on gallery walls, while my little studio grows ever-more a secret cave of wondrous curios.

For those interested in the lore I’ve been developing for the Aves ex Machina world, this particular helmet design designates the Aurelians (‘Golden Ones’), elite scouts or seekers of the Aves ex Machina collective. These birds have sharp eyes, swift wings and keen senses. Their helmets have wide, spherical impact-resistant visors with a wide field of view. They hide sophisticated internal mechanisms that recycle respiratory moisture into drinking water for long exploratory missions.
